Understanding Why Scans, Analysis, and AI Chats Do Not Consume ARUs
Learn why only completed recovery attempts are metered, and why scanning and analysis are free.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the metering policy
- Know which operations are free
- Understand why this design benefits you
Prerequisites
Why only completed attempts are metered
Recoupant meters only completed recovery attempts because that is where real work produces a real outcome. Scanning and analysis are discovery operations — they help you find opportunities but do not recover revenue. Charging for discovery would discourage you from scanning often, which would reduce your recovery potential.

Free operations
The following operations are always free and do not consume ARUs: running revenue scans, AI verification and analysis, opportunity detection, authorizing opportunities, pending and in-progress attempts, AI chat with any assistant, browsing the Knowledge Center and Learning Center, syncing integrations, and viewing dashboards and reports.
Why this benefits you
This design lets you scan as often as you need, chat with AI assistants freely, and review opportunities without worrying about usage. You only spend ARUs when a recovery attempt completes — meaning you only pay for outcomes, not for exploration.
Important Notes
- You can run unlimited scans and chat with AI assistants without consuming ARUs.
- Only completed recovery attempts (successful or unsuccessful) consume ARUs.
